Close up photography needs to follow also the rules of composition. remember to have the eyes in the focus as the main point of interest, also clean crops are important. i would crop it more, and get the eyes to follow the rule of third, as they eyes are the most important points of a portrait. also the contrast can control the visual impact, so flat or strong, it is up to you to control the result
