A day of ski, nothing to do and the distant stare
photo critique for Marko
Hello my name is Marko and recently i discovered your site and youtube channel and i love it :), i can’t wait to look at all of your videos because they are very good! I have some photos that i would like you to take a look at but i can’t seem to find where to send them, if you find the time to contact me so i can send you the pictures that would mean the world to me! Thank you for your timeI have 3 pictures i would like you to rate, they are not my best but thats why i need a second opinion :).The first picture “The distant stare”:1.Content 3/10: Because there is nothing special in the picture, well not for anyone else, its my niece. But i love how she looked away at the right moment2. Composition 5/10 i think i framed the picture right, the head not to big3. Image quality 6/10 there is some post photoshop produstion but no allot, i like the way the light is hitting her faceThe second picture “Nothing to do”1. Content 3/10 Again nothing revolutionery in the picture, a girl sitting in a window2. Composition 4/10 the picture is somewhat framed right but i hate that i cut off her feet, it was a very dark room and it was a split secont that she sat there, she didn’t pose3. Image quality 2/10 to dark, the contrast is maby ok but i don’t realy knowThe third picture “A day of skiing”1. Content 4/10 again nothing very special 2 friends in the france alps2. Composition 6/10 ok framing, maby if i didnt tilt my camera and took a bit wider picture so that more of the mountain is shown it would be better3. Image quality 7/10 i like the light in this one, it is a bright sunny day, and i tryed to use the show as a reflector so that the other side of them isn’t in complete shadowThank you for the opertunity to send you the pictures,Marko……………..

This is a bit more than a simple portrait. The facial expression is one of an adult in my opinion and that is added value. I am a bit disturbed by the background though. It is a good portrait in my opinion
Composition 6.5 out of 10
Nice cut and well balanced proportions of the face in the image. It is about right
Image quality 6.5 out of 10
I see some editing here, image looks good, contrast is a bit strong for my personal taste but this has not influenced my rating. A better background would have helped
Final TRS mark 6 out of 10
I believe this is better than you think, it needs just an extra step to make it better. Just think about the entire image when you shoot and get rid of the random and disturbing elements, or make them talk to each other
Nothing to do
Content 6 out of 10
I like the interpretation of a girl sneaking a peek outside. Also I like the mood black and white. it gives character, but there is a lack of excitement. It is a very clear subject and I do not have any doubts. Also I enjoy your title.
Composition 4 out of 10
symmetry of the window is destroyed by the girl. Image does not have balance and i cannot see any other compositional intent
Image quality 5 out of 10
Looks good in black and white a bit undecided if this is a strong message or not, it is somewhere in between.

Facebook is full of these pics. It relates to you only.

I can see the intent if the you 2 in the image, but your arrangements do not show any visual compositional intent. it is average
Image quality 6.5 out of 10
Clear picture, shows you have got a good camera. What did you shoot with?
Final TRS mark 5 out of 10
I am not very passionate about pics like that as they are not photography, but snapping pics

Title: Distant stare
Content: 4
Good content overall. Some things in the background need to fixed.
Composition: 6
Composition good overall. I would like to see the eyes in a different location instead of falling in the middle of the page.
Image Quality: 5
Image quality is average. The skin needs to be softened slightly. There is loss of detail in the hair. Too much contrast for a portait of this type for my personal taste.
TRS Score: 5
Overall a descent picture with small things that only need adjusted to make it better.
Title:Nothing to do
Content: 65
The content is interesting. You can get a sense she is bored or just day dreaming.
Composition: 5
The composition is average. I believe there is some intent to compose the image, but I would like to see some slightly different positioning.
Image Quality: 4
I think the image is slightly underexposed overall to make that wow factor. This might have been the intention, but I would like to see it pop more. What are you using for post production?
TRS Score: 4.6
Average picture with the possibility to make it much better with some slightly different composition and image quality adjustments.
Title: A day of skiing
Content: 3
Content doesn’t do much, this is one of those that is more important to you.
Composition: 5
The composition is almost there.
Image Quality: 6
Well exposed image. Not sure if I would like to see your mountain blurred out or not.
TRS Score: 4.6
Overall an average picture. Tends to be heavy on the left side.
Comments: Marko you have photography skills, but you just need to improve on a few things here and there. You want your photos to stand out from a crowd or at least get that wow reaction from people when they view your work. Take plenty of photographs of the same subject with different angles, compositions and aperture settings. I hope you take these comments and apply them toward your future photographs. Study others work and dissect the good/bad of each one and apply them to yours.

Distant stare
Content 5 out of 10
Overall a solid image however the white background cloth/towel does throw your eye away from the subject, generally not to bad of an image.
Composition 6.5 out of 10
I like the cropped and generally position of this image I think you have done well to pose this image
Image quality 6 out of 10
The Image is of good general quality maybe a little more focussing on the eyes, it is a little dark maybe bumping up the brightness would be a better look as a whole and with the background distraction I would say overall a good all round image.
Final TRS mark 6 out of 10
Nothing to do
Content 6 out of 10
Straight away I love B&W images that can create great depth and imagination, I like the look, however, it’s a pity the feet have been cropped as it kind of loses that overall feel, maybe a tighter crop further up the leg may help, but I like this image
Composition 4 out of 10
The general composition i feel is good, however I may have opened the shutter window some more to allow more ambient light in this would have boosted the overall look and feel to the image
Image quality 5 out of 10
Love the B&W some room for experimenting though by trying different lighting methods. But generally a great start.

Content 4 out of 10
I see a profile Image here or holiday snap shot, great for social media and general look where I am photo, however i feel that is as far as it goes, a general shot for information , purposes.
You can do a lot more with dramatic scenery around you, with some patients the skys the limit.
Composition 5 out of 10
General composition is ok as a rule and as a general snap shot this is a normal photo would of liked to of seen a tighter crop which would of created a nice depth of field of sorts, where was this taken looks like a great place.
IImage quality 6 out of 10
Nice all round image sharp and clear
Final TRS mark 5 out of 10
I understand that everyone takes snaps shots in the tens of thousands per day, however wanting to capture good eye catching and impressive photography requires some planning and thought to what people would like to see, you have the skills and looks like the equipment to capture great images, I would move to the next level of composing your images taking your time to look around, and seeing what is pleasing to the eye, a good rule to remember is if it does not look good through the viewfinder chases are it wont look good as a final image.
I hope are advise helps you progress, never be but down by anything you see or read we all started from somewhere, and we are all still learning and picking up new techniques, there is never a single photographer that knows everything there is to know about photography as we all have are set types of images we enjoy to take, please keep taking photographs always learn from youtube channels such as Christians you will always pick up great tips and techniques, I wish you well in your photography.

Cute boy! As a portrait the overall elements in the photo are confusing and do not work well. The background is disturbing. The photographer’s reflection in the boy’s eyes are not very attractive and should be avoided.
Composition: TRS mark 4/10
Here the image needs improvement. The cloth in the background is very disturbing and competes for attention. I like the child’s expression but other than that this, the image is not up to the ‘professional’ standard usually associated with good portraits. I might have, for example, put the eyes using the ROT [Rule of Thirds] as the image might have looked more ‘balanced’.
Image quality: TRS mark 5/10
Blurring the background, using a small f stop directs the viewer to your subject. The eyes are in focus and that is very good.

Content: TRS mark 6/10
The content creates interest. I like how you used the light through the slatted windows although they [the slats] compete for attention with your subject, which may cause some distraction.
Composition: TRS mark 4/10
The photo is about the model, that’s fine but the image seems to have more than ‘one’ subject. The bright [blown out] highlight ‘bisecting’ the photo could have been toned down as the viewer tends to have his/her attention distracted. We all tend to view the brightest part of an image first.
It seems that you were not sure whether to compose for a full-length or bust-length picture. Try to avoid cropping at the ankle unless you really cannot avoid it – such as when for example, you have your model wading in water or standing in rolling surf. This would then be an element of composition and not a crop at the edge of your photo.
In portraiture, ankle crops are generally frowned upon since this gives a careless, ‘stuck in the middle’ look.
I suggest that you read around the subject as you clearly demonstrate an eye for this genre of photography.
Image quality: TRS mark 5/10
Personally, I feel that this image is underexposed and too dark having a limited tonal range [tonal range refers to mid-tone values expanding to occupy the scale between the lightest and darkest points of an image]. Try to open up the dark shadows, such as the girl’s hair and be careful not to blow out your highlights. Watch your histogram!
In this particular photo, you might try to ‘widen’ your tonal range in post-processing. This may serve as good practice!
A standard method amongst many ‘digital’ photographers is to always shoot in colour and convert to B&W in post-processing. You’ll have much more control over the tonal range that way.
Marko you are on the right track but need to concentrate more especially when framing through the viewfinder, as we all do!

Content: TRS mark 5/10
This is a fairly common theme although I do like the mountain peaks in the background.
Composition: TRS mark 5/10
I don’t think that there is anything striking by way of composition here. This is more of a holiday snapshot.
Image quality: TRS mark 3/10
This image suffers from blown out highlights losing detail. This image might have ‘looked’ better if shot at the edge of the day.
