Photo Critique

Hi I’m a little nervous about submitting my work for review as I only shoot with a bridge camera, a little fuji hs30exr. The main stay of my work is still life and macro with a little nature thrown in when my health lets me get out and about, unlike most photographers I like altering my setup and in camera settings as opposed to working in some kind of photo editor to achieve my results.

I would greatly appreciate your input towards my work in hopes of bettering my skill.

I do not believe you need to be nervous at all and I really like your photos. Your approach of trying to set up the scene rather than relying on editing softwares is the way of the real photographer and it takes time and effort to do so. That means you are passionate about your art and that can be seen immediately. I love your works and I would encourage anyone with your skills to send us their work for comments. Your photos are the ones we love to comment on and your camera is irelevant. great art can come with little tools.

Blue Moon

Very interesting image, a bit too much black, it gets lost. Uneven rhythm of the pencils is great, shows refined composition, not sure if with intent, but it all looks great. I really like the roughness of the wooden sharpened pencil, and it brings texture to life. I would continue the raw of pencils to the end of the image on the right, as the gap is not helping with the overall composition.

I can make other comments in regards to the composition, the underexposure of the black, but my comments are irrelevant…the image is great…

Reflected beauty

This is an interesting image and it look surreal. I am not sure how you treat the light, I believe the light should come from a different angle…not sure myself but I feel something is not right. Idea is great, maybe you can try with other flower arrangements…maybe it is jut my subjective perception. Anyway…very original! A bit too busy, a bit too raw. This tends to get into fine art category and needs some polishing.

 September Shades of Grey

A great image again, a little bit to cold and dark for a flower. Maybe because I would expect light and colour for a flower and you are showing a black background which is heavy and disturbing, but the image has a powerful impact undoubtedly.

I believe you are a true artist, a bit rough on the edges right now (for my taste only) , but this in only my opinion. Your images are great, I would probably say the colours are blunt and raw. Your have your own language and you should explore your own ways and do not have to listen to me.
