Photography Critique for Greg

Hello Christian

I am new to photography but have been completely swallowed by it. Attached are 3 images I would like you to critique.

The first is called The Days End…that’s the boat picture. I would rate it a 5 on content, a 5 on composition and a 7 on image quality.

The 2nd photo I call A Moment of Serenity…the girl with the book. I would rate that photo a 7 on content, a 7 on composition and an 8 on image quality.

The 3rd and final image I call Castillo Di Amarosa…the castle. I rate this photo a 7 on content, a 7 on composition and an 8 on image quality.

Due to the size you’ve requested the quality is less than what I would consider appropriate. Thank you very much for taking the time to look at my photos

Greg

thank you for your submission let;s have a look at your images to see if we are close to your won ratings

The Days End

Content 7 out of 10

despite the fact boats are nothing spectacular, your effort to capture from such a distance shows skills and also an interesting approach.

Composition 8 out of 10

I see 2 rules of thirds here and a great distribution and balance, water, hills and sky. Also the boat follows the rule of thirds and that is a very good composition. Was this intended, or just your intuition?

Image quality 5 out of 10

I see some skills here, sharpness and vignette and I can see you know what you are doing, but I will have to give you a 5 as the image losses interest due to a dull colour. The image is not noticeable because of that. I want to be blown away by such a picture , to want to sail or go on holidays…your image does not inspire me.

Final TRS mark 6.6 out of 10

I believe this is a good image, and it can be better by playing with colour, make it vivid, make it stand out!

Moment of Serenity

_DSC0674-2

Content 4 out of 10

A women reading a book standing. What is interesting about it?The light choice could have been better. Strong harsh direct sunlight. I personally run away from that

Composition 7 out of 10

I cannot criticise anything here, it is by the book. Nice balance, the women is trying to follow the rule of thirds

Image quality 5 out of 10

Image is sharp, has enough colour but it does not show power. Anyone can take this picture…..I would like to see individuality and original approach…

Final TRS mark 5.33 out of 10

this is not an artistic photography but a simple snapshot. It might relate to you, but this image does not tell me much,

Castillo di Amarosa

Castillo di Amarosa

Content 6 out of 10

Despite the fact this picture shows interesting architecture, I have seen many similar images, too many for me to be impressed.

Composition 6 out of 10

this is a bit tricky as I cannot define a main point of interest, I would probably have tried to push the far corner to follow the rule of thirds rather than being in the middle of the picture as there is nothing symmetric here. The image is not disturbing, but not exceptional either

Image quality 7 out of 10

The quality is good, colour tones are rich and nice and I can see you control exposure well

Final TRS mark 6.3 out of 10

Greg

I see you have got a good set of skills and I can see you have a good camera and a good lens. What did you use? Also if you say you just started, than I can say I am impressed. I believe you need to search for better subjects, and try to get more courageous in making blunt, simple statements. All the images above can be taken by anyone…where are you in these? what makes you be you?
