I would classify flowers within the landscape photography genre. Everyone is photographing flower and for that I would have given you a 4 however you have proved skills in taking a simple flower, striping unnecessary detail, use a macro lens and also a bit of post production. The image has a good visual impact and I appreciate that. Also I thing the cold colours are a good choice making it different
Composition 4 out of 10
This is a good example of a confusing intent…either in the middle, wither rule of thirds, either half crop…your is neither. It would have taken a small effort to make this an 7-8. also I feel the flower is neither small or large to make a statement…you are in limbo ….in between intents….
Image quality 7 out of 10
I see skills in using a macro and a bit of post production. A good sense of blur and overall a good picture
Final TRS mark 6.3 out of 10
Overall a good image, a better than average, with a bit of impact. again, it would have been a very small effort to make it much better by shifting the flower to follw some rule, or not sure if you could actually get even closer….
I can see you have got skills…..can I ask what equipment did you use?

Flower Photo Critique
CONTENT: 5
I always enjoy looking at flowers, but nothing special stands out on this particular flower.
COMPOSITION: 4
The composition needs to be adjusted. I would have liked to see a tighter focal point on the flower and moved to the left slightly. Right now there is more background than flower.
IMAGE QUALITY: 5
Overall it’s average. I do like the bokeh, but I might even put a slight vignette on the picture and bring out some of the highlights slightly to give more of a punch.
TRS SCORE: 4.6
Conclusion
Shubhang,
Thank you for the submission. With slight improvements this would be an excellent photograph and would be a great subject for macro photography. I like the colors, but in the end I feel there is too much background and not enough flower to have that WOW factor. Keep shooting!

A familiar flower portrait photographed at its prime. Good work.
Composition: TRS mark 3/10
The composition needs improving. Try following the rule of thirds placing the flower in one of the intersections. I think that the point of view is good but the flower is ‘lost’ in negative space. Since this is the subject, it should dominate the picture.
Image quality: TRS mark 5/10
The blurred background is striking and focus attention on the flower. I think that the image should be sharper although this might be due to conversion. Is this shot using a dedicated macro lens? With regards to image quality, revealing the exif data would allow for more constructive and better informed critique.
Final TRS mark: 5- out of 10

Generally speaking images of flowers are a great way to start taking control of a well balanced formula of photography as they don’t answer back and generally stay still, saying that there is details here, however I would definitely look into a dedicated macro lens either a 60mm or 100mm capturing the internal side of a flower as simple as it sounds makes catches the public eye as it is generally something you don’t see on a daily basis, even though it is a well taken subject it still delivers positive results
Composition 4 out of 10
Composition here seems a little lost as the flower is quite small in the image and with the large background, would constitute a everyday flower shot,
Image quality 7.2 out of 10
I like the Bokeh/blurred background alot it as a nice dreamy feel the image would benefit from post production using lightroom or photoshop to bump up the vibrance etc would make the image look warmer, as to me it feels a little cold but generally a good overall image.
Final TRS mark 6 out of 10
Overall I like this image however I feel I would do more with it to make it stand out in a crowd to give it that wow factor, there are simple but effective changes you can make to enhance the look, for example cropping, and post production, However great effort here well done.
Thanks for the critique Christian,Kevin,Robert and Simon!!
I will definitely look into the composition part next time and try to improve.
The camera I used was a Nikon D800 with 50mm 1.8D.
Cheers 🙂
