Learn to be your own greatest asset

by Denson Joseph – Academy Member

First of all, let me start off by saying that I am a novice photographer and I am still in the works of developing my skills. I am in the process of opening my own photography studio where I plan to expand my creativity and become very successful while doing it. Let it be noted that, I am not making this declaration under delusion or naiveness of wanting to be a photographer, but in acknowledgement of what it will actually take to accomplish this goal. Part of aiming so high and actually believing that you will eventually one day accomplish your goal is to prepare and educate yourself as much as possible for what you intend to do, in this case, opening my own photography studio. Daily, I make it my personal business to make sure I contribute to my goal by researching, reading, watching youtube videos & attending seminars from professionals who are where I would like to be in the maturity of my business. I apply myself to be my own greatest asset and I do this my investing within myself and ultimately my business. The Academy of Photography has helped open my mind to different aspects and approaches of photography that I had no idea existed. Even if i did, I was still able to walk away with knowledgable information that I did not have prior to visiting the website. This website is one of the various tools I use to help me master my craft thus positioning me right in-line towards success. By far this website is one of the better resources online that you can find when looking to expand in owning a photography studio or even just photography in general outside of the professional realm. The academy of Photography has information that all levels of photographers can use from the beginners who just bought a camera yesterday to the professionals who’s been working in this profession their entire careers. Im not advertising for this website although it may seem as if I am. I speak of this website highly in this light because I truly believe that the enormous amount of quality information and resources that is gathered in this website can save and help any photographer with time and effort. Certain wisdom of photography you would have to gain by no other means than experience is displayed here for you to use to your own advantage. If you are serious about photography this website should serve you well in helping you advance to where ever you desire to be within your career or hobby as a photographer.
I think the hardest part of my experience in opening my own photography studio is playing the waiting game for your doors to actually open up for business. It is a process that all businesses and business owners have to go through, not just the photography businesses. Proper planning, goal setting, follow ups and funding for your business is imperative at this beginning stage as it sets the tone for your level of success for your first year. You’re not going to get something for nothing in this line of work, whether you’re a professional or not. To improve your picture taking as a photographer, even if you’re just doing this as a hobby, you must practice like anybody else would for anything else. The best thing you can do for yourself is to grow everyday without making excuses and finding other distractions to slow you down. Be great & dream big but remember, nothing comes from laziness & procrastination. Play your part accordingly and your success will too.
