The circle

wedding photography posing guide

Another wedding pose that I like to offer to my clients is the circle. Basically you need to lay down on your back on the floor, grass, carpet or whatever and get everyone to join a circle above you. You need to have a wide lens on your camera and hoot up. Make sure the faces are in focus and you get a proper exposure. You might want to use the flash and be considerate as your models are going to look at you deureclty. you do not want to zap them too many times as they will see little green stars. I would suggest a ETTL setting and if it does not work at least manual setting for your flash and 1/16 power. You might want to use a wide angle lens. The images below have been taken with a 24-70 mm , but my next try will be taken with my fisheye lens 8-15mm.

Another variation of the same wedding photo pose as the circle is to shoot down. You need to get the bridal party to lay down in a circle and you shoot from above. No need for flash here as you will not have the same problem being shadowed by their bodies as per the previous pose. You can also climb on a higher level if you have the possibility to do so, on a bench, balcony or whatever is available. Shooting from above will have an issue though….some of the models might not want to do it as they are best dressed on their wedding day and if this means they are going to ruin their clothes, it will be a deal breaker. But some will do accept this and you will be good to go, and get a great shot.

Both ideas are great as they are not necessarily for weddings, you can use them for family or group portraits as well. Always adding a bit of interest.

I am sure you might have already seen this idea. it is not new and I cannot claim I invented the wheel, but everyone is free to use it, and I believe it is a good pose in a wedding situation
